The current list of Officers of the Society is as follows:
Chairman: Simon Buteux
Simon is an archaeologist who has spent most of his career working for the University of Birmingham. He is the author of several books and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. Simon moved to Ludlow in 2008 with his wife Rebecca to undertake the repair of the neglected Grade I listed Reader’s House, and the alterations necessary to turn it into a family home. This, and the long battle to prevent inappropriate and unwanted houses being built in the adjoining garden, plunged Simon into the Ludlow community at the deep end. He is now working as Project Officer for St. Laurence’s Church ‘Vision Project’, which seeks to ensure the conservation and sympathetic reordering of this magnificent building for the 21st centry.
Deputy Chairman: Dan Lloyd
Dan joined the committee in 2010 and is responsible for the website. His background is in the foundry and engineering industries, working until recently in Switzerland and the Far East. He also has business interests in Telford. His interests are railways and industrial architecture.

Committee member: Ian Bott FREng
Ian’s main career was as a Ministry of Defence scientist and Engineer involving various National and International duties. On retirement he became Honorary Chairman of Portsmouth Area Hospice during which time The Rowans Hospice was built and commissioned. Since moving to Ludlow in the mid 90’s he has been active in local organisations serving Ludlow.”

Bill has many local Interests: Planning, especially Strategic Planning, projected house numbers/social housing. U3A Food and Farming Group (founder member of Ludlow 21 and Local Produce Market). Shropshire Wildlife Trust.Shropshire Ornithological Trust.Local Community Hospital.Ludlow Music Society. Ludlow Probus (ex chairman) Ludlow Railway Users. Occasional Bowls (ex Sec of Ludlow League). St Laurence PCC (as rep of St John, Gravel Hill). Trustee Conaservation Trust for St Laurence.
In Local Government he served as Councillor (various betweeen 1960 and 1999) County 8 yrs,District 9 years Parish (12000 pop. Chaiman 1963 – 66).
In his career he spent 37 years in Education (teaching and preparing curicula for “reluctant” learners, (especially in West Ham 1968-70). and severely emotionally disturbed with behavioural problems.
Committee member: John Nash
John Nash first came to live in Ludlow in 2000 before moving here permanently in 2002. He previously lived in Mid Wales, running a Smallholding. His career was in Telecoms where he was a divisional managing director for STC. In Ludlow his interests include period property and house renovation. He is a member of the Bowls Club, Ludlow Historical Research Group, St. Giles Church, Ludford and a member of the organising committee of Ludlow Lectures.
He is married to Glenys with two grown up children and a recent grandson.
Committee member: Mike Wake
Michael came to live in Ludlow in March 2006 having retired from a medical career as a consultant surgeon based in two Birmingham teaching hospitals since 1976. He joined the Society’s committee in 2010. Presently he is chairman of the trustees of a international medical charity and an active member of Ludlow Rotary Club. His interests include gardening, game fishing and Rugby football.
